It won't be long now before the eastern ice shelf of Thwaites glacier falls apart completely.
Thwaites Glacier in West Antarctica is bigger than the UK and can potentially contribute more than half a meter to sea level rise. The loss of this remaining ice shelf will significantly change the local landscape. The ongoing weakening is already allowing parts of Thwaites glacier to accelerate (https://tc.copernicus.org/preprints/tc-2021-288/).
