Svalbard glacier surges

The Copernicus Sentinel-1 SAR mission provides data which can be used to derive ice surface velocity. This animation charts the annual mean surface velocity for glaciers and ice caps in Svalbard over a decade. The changing velocities reveal many glacier surges, for which the Svalbard archipelago is famous.
